A take-over of Stockport County appears to be close as The Gibbons consortium pulls out of the running to buy the club, and ex-City player Jim Melrose signs an exclusivity of agreement to buy County.

The Gibbons consortium pulled out due to what is believed to be a lack of funds, and now that leaves Jim Melrose (allegedly backed by a consortium consisting of a businessman interested in buying Everton FC, and even Graeme Souness) in the clear to take over control of the club.

A press release from Melrose or Melrose’s representatives is due sometime over the next 24 hours, check back here for all the latest.

This can only be a good thing can’t it??? Big names with cash and a genuine interest and love for the game?? Still trying to figure out what theyre interest is with the club but kind of putting that to the back of my mind at the minute, the sooner the clubs bought the sooner the exodus of players stops!!!!! Its been terrible the lads we’ve lost especially most of them for nowt. Lets wait and see! I O County
