Ex-Man City, Portsmouth and Blackburn striker Benjani Mwaruwari trained with Didi Hamann’s County squad today as the Zimbabwean’s so far unsuccessful search for a new club continues.
The 32 year-old, who has had a string of injuries during his career, turned down Blackburn Rover’s offer of a new deal at the end of last season and has been without a club since then.
He lives locally and knows manager Hamann from their days at City together, and the German took the chance today to invite the forward to train with his squad.
County have even spoken to the Conference about rules regarding non-contract players, and are confident that the move would be allowed if he was unable to find a club.
‘The Kaiser’ is aware that Mwaruwari could find a club tomorrow and be off in a shot, but the feeling is that the longer his wait goes on, the more chance the club have of persuading him to play at EP for a few games.
As of now, Benjani is scheduled to appear at Manor Farm tomorrow for training and will continue to do so until he joins County or find a league club.
Another quiet day at EP.

No disrespect, but I have my doubts about Stockports ability to offer a large enough wage for the lad.
As said in the article…Non-contract.
Would be good for the club, better still the affect he will have on the young players and help he can give them. Now all the league 1 & 2 clubs know he is around someone will snap him up now.
Come home to Pompey ! !
Hope he does join although unconvinced he will.
Unsure about this one, nice idea but can we afford him?
He’s joined Portsmouth again :O They will love him.
