Blowing in the wind

May. The blossom is out on the trees. The lawn is due it’s first cut of the year. And the Conference ‘AGM cup is now in full swing.

In recent years, relegation from the Conference has not been a straight forward affair. The stats are something like over the last 8 years, only in one year has all four clubs dropped out of the league.

Altrincham escaped the drop two or three times I seem to remember.

And so to 2013. County finished fourth from bottom. No argument here. We deserve to go down after a series of shocking football business decisions, but what’s this? Almost inevitably a straw is blowing in the wind and this time it is the unfortunate Aldershot who have gone into administration

Sad news. All County fans should have empathy for Shots fans given our recent troubles of course, but this opens up the possibility of an escape from the drop.

I have read that if Aldershot are still in administration by the time the Conference AGM has ended then the Conference will accept Aldershot into the ‘Competition’ but not necessarily at Conference National level.

Didn’t poor Boston drop from League 2 and down into Conference North?

So, although there are a few ifs, buts and maybes, the possibility does exist that County start 2013-14 in the Conference again.

And that poses a few problems.

Should we be full-time again or stay part-time? Ian Bogie needs to know ASAP so he has time to build a team to compete in whatever division we end up in.

Are the Season Ticket prices announced applicable? Will they rise if we get out of gaol?

I have a small amount of sympathy for the County board who have to plan for two eventualities but then again if they had shown even average football nous last season we would not be in this pickle in the first place.

So, all clear as mud. To avoid disappointment I am trying to not think about this straw. Let is fly past in the wind.

Stockport County – Blue Square North. OK.

[Thanks to Vital County member BlueArmyMike for putting me onto this]

I leave you with a bit of Dylan.
