Oxford English dictionary. Catastrophe noun. 1. a sudden event that causes very great trouble or destruction: 2. a bad situation: Surely there is a new entry for the 2006 edition. Catastrophe 3. Macclesfield Town 6 Stockport County 0

That is one word to describe losing to a (once looked down upon) local rival in a six pointer fight for league survival game on Boxing day in front of fantastic travelling and passionate support

Oxford English dictionary. passion noun a very powerful feeling, for example of sexual attraction, love, hate, anger or other emotion:

This is one word to describe the fans of both sides who turned up to watch the massacre at Moss Rose. This word does not apply to most of the players who played yesterday for Stockport County.

The match was a new low in an already awful season. Worse than the 6-0 beating up at Carlisle. In fact have Stockport County had many worse days going right back to 1883? Certainly non-league FA Cup upsets are painful and embarrassing but a six goal hammering by a local rival in the position the club is in right now?

Once again County were reduced to 10 men early on in a game. Another ridiculous red card, this time Tes Bramble’s nineteenth minute lunacy of knee high hack on Danny Swailes gave Macc an advantage they really didn’t need.

The goal scorers were Jon Parkin (42, 62) Clyde Wijnhard (40, 63), M Bullock (58) , J Miles (85).

Oh yes County keeper James Spencer (now suffering from a bad back no doubt but played well and kept the score from double figures almost) saved a penalty.

County were without Ashley Williams (suspended) and so Michael Raynes stepped in. For most of the first half things were looking reasonable, with no hint of the surrender to come. On 42 minutes Clyde Wijnhard bundled the ball over line to signal the start of the capitulation. Could County get to half time and regroup. No. Macclesfields Parkin turned Raynes on the edge of the area fired a low drive past Spencer.

Oh dear. Two nil down at half time. Surely County with 10 men had only one option but to fight with spirit and passion and go for an unlikely draw.

The second half seemed unreal. County wilted away. Hatters fans went through anger to shock. The police were kept busy ejecting miscreants. A few left early, shell shocked and dazed.
So what now? Torquay on a Wednesday night. Six pointer. The players have mutinied.

management noun the control and organization of something:

I am afraid that the author, so long an optimist and believer now feels that this noun does not apply to Chris Turner.

Here’s another definition from the OED

resign verb: to give up a job or position by telling your employer that you are leaving:

Bye, bye Chris. Hello….?
