County close to the end..

A defeat at high-flying Wycombe today left County hanging on to their Football League status by a thread.

Ray Mathias stuck with the same side which saw off Southend last week, with Anthony Elding leading the line in a 4-5-1 formation.

Elding had the first shot of the match, firing just past the upright after just one minute played.

But soon it was normal service resumed and Lewis Montrose fired Wanderers into a tenth minute lead with a follow-up strike to a poorly defended free-kick, lashing past Matty Glennon in goal.

And just three minutes before the half-time whistle, County effectively sealed their own fate when Jamie Vincent inexplicably handled Montrose’s cross, and Scott Rendell stroked past Glennon from the resulting spot-kick.

A 4-1 triumph for Barnet at struggling Burton lifted the Londoners three points above The Hatters, with Burton sitting five points ahead of County and two points ahead of Barnet with three games in hand on both.

The end is near. Get ready for the doom and gloom. Next season will be one of rebuilding. I understand that the club have said that they will continue with a full time squad. Lets hope that we can bring some new faces in that will wear the shirt with pride and determination to give the fans some success. I don’t think that we will be back in the league for some years, but hey, lets hope that they can prove me wrong. I think that we should stick with the present management setup, they should be given a chance to turn things round. The team has improved over the last couple of weeks we just need to continue that into next season with the addition of some new faces and the departure of some of those that are just not up to the job.
edgeley your request for 4 wins I think is asking to much. And that other teams don’t win any is just a pipe dream.
Keep the Blue and White army on the move.

MA think your right about 4 wins but we have to believe and fight cause as you say that thiS management appear to be getting it right in tHAT we have been better this last few weeks than we have for a long time. Four wins starting next week then beating Crewe away then winning our last two home games and hopefully scrorping a draw at either Shrewsbury or Port Vale…. NEVER GIVE UP BELIEVING

Right, where to start, I for one will never give up on County how could I? I’ve known nothing else since 1959. so we lost yesterday, were we outplayed? no, we fell to a couple of set pieces. We gave as good as we got without hitting the net. Mathias has instilled something I don’t know what but we are much better this last four weeks, congrats to him, Wardy and Lordy. It would be nice to think we could get 4 wins but even with that the others have got to lose, a big ask I feel. Anyway onwards to EP and Stevenage tough but not impossible. Come on the COUNTY.

Agree entirely with MA above. My additional fear is we still have not stopped falling and next season could be one of struggle. Again. Still, taking a leaf out Edgeleys book IF we stuick with Mathias and IF we dont end up with the lowest budget of any side in the BSP we can start to arrest our decline. Maybe.

GUYS GUYS !!!!! Its not over yet we have to believe !! How can we expect the players to believe if we (the fans) throw the towel in now….Look guys it doesn’t look good does it but we still have the points to play for, I am sure we can win 4 games and scrorp a draw because Mathias has made a difference

  • iowecounty says:

We dominated the first half against a team second in the league, in their own back yard. Mathias has turned things round, and if we just start converting some of our chances, playing the way we are now, 4 wins is well within reach. I STILL BELIEVE!!

  • vicman says:

Fully endorse everything edgeley and iowecounty have said, we cannot give up now especially as there is now a belief we could get something from this season. Come on the Hatters.
