It looks as though Stockport County have completed the signing of midfielder Matty Mainwaring.
Mainwaring was on trial at County and played in a couple of reserve games, and he was presented to the fans on Saturday night before the play-off game against Wycombe.
Because of the volume of noise I couldn’t quite catch what was said, but he was on the pitch so I can only presume we have signed him.
Mainwaring is a young midfielder who was released by Preston North End.
After doing a bit of research it appears that Mainwaring was one of the people who won a place on the David Beckham Hotshot’s school back in 2004.
Speaking after the programme back in 2004, David Beckham said: ‘What I think impressed me about Matthew was when he was up against another of the hotshots Mollie, he was giving her a little bit of a chance, whereas some young kids wouldn’t care.’
‘They just want to do their best and go straight through whether it’s a girl or a boy. But that’s what impressed me, he was a caring person. He was congratulating Mollie and saying well done to her. That’s what I realised and recognised throughout the day… and he’s a great talent of course.’
Once we get complete news we will let you know!
