County Hand Trials To Guyanese Duo

County have handed official trials to Ricky Shakes and Jason Lloyd, after the duo were scouted by The Hatters at a recent friendly between semi-professional Cray Wanderers and the Guyana national team.

According to Stabroek News, County officials contacted agent Faizal Khan to make him aware of the interest, and Khan then brokered the initial deal to bring Shakes and Lloyd to Manor Farm on trial, which started on Monday.

Paul Simpson also received reports that Miami FC defender JP Rodriguez, who captained the Golden Jaguars in the defeat to Cray, was available for trial, but Miami were adamant that Rodriguez would not be allowed to travel to Edgeley Park without a transfer fee being negotiated before-hand.

Lloyd, a 29-year-old goalkeeper, has made 12 appearances for the Guyana national side so far and is most notably the son of cricket legend, West Indian Sir Clive Lloyd.

Shakes may be more well-known to Hatters fans, as he made 79 appearances for Swindon Town between 2005 and 2007 on the right wing, before joining Conference Ebbsfleet Utd in 2008. The 25-year-old became the first ever English Football League player to make an appearance for the Guyanese national side in the match, though he was born in London, he qualified through his father being of Guyanese origin.
