County Positives!

Suspend your disbelief. Let’s accentuate the positive and spin some Stockport County upbeat news snippets, if only because it’s grey and miserable outside and the repeated whispers I keep hearing whenever a few County fans get together are so damned bleak that I want to bury my head in the sand today.

So… what recent good news do we have?

Well, hot on the heels of our two keepers being signed up (ok, nice if one of them was an experienced keeper) is the signing of Mr. Philip Jevons, late of Hyde FC who scored 15 times in 35 appearances (thanks Wikipedia). So although he will be 34 on August 1st, he can perform at Conference level, and I would say this is a player who is of the required standard for the present day Stockport County Football Club.

Certainly Alan Lord thinks so ‘Phil is a player who we have admired for some time. He is a major signing for the club, a proven goalscorer who will be an instant hit with our fantastic supporters.’

OK, I think we have 4 or is it 5 players now. Wonderful.

Next up on the list of positives is the news that County Life, our glossy match day programme, has won best programme in the division by non other than the Soccer Club Swap Shop. See here. It is a professionally produced match day companion, even if we no longer have Jim Gannon’s must-read notes at the beginning.

Well done Phil Brennon (both the man and the programme are echo’s of what a decent club we used to be).

And there’s more ! Our club has a new digital marketing partner, and it’s Stockport’s very own 75 Media. Article and picture of our very stylish Chief Exec here.

Now, to be fair, our current owners and board have received criticism from many but on this occasion the development of an online shop will be a step forward for the club. I know of a couple of fans who live in distant parts and visting Edgeley Park is a once a season at best occasion, so to be able to purchase County replica kits, memorabilia etc on line will be a welcome development.

All we need to now is to somehow be part of a wacky internet trend and shift 100,000 replica shirts. Perhaps that Gangnam Style fella would like to model one on his next single?

Yet more good news! County are cementing stronger links with Stockport College. See College Link-Up latest’. Not sure if County are doing this with a view to un-earthing a rough diamond or two or whether this is an attempt to grow our fanbase and raise the profile of the club in the town and it’s environs. Which ever it is, knitting the club tightly into our local community is a no-brainer in my book.

Finally, (and can you take any more?) our chief exec, Mr Ryan McKnight tells us that Stockport County fans are fully behind the club. Read it here

I make no further comment on that point.

Normal service to be resume in the next article.

Here’s one great big positive for you cropped, Aldershot administrators have addmited that Aldershot will not be solvent by 1st June as required by the Blue Square and will therefore not feature in the Blue Square Premier next Season.
County are staying up !!!!!!! now start believing.
PS Keith Briggs also left Kidderminster yesterday – watch this space.

You have stolen my thunder there BAM ! Next article will be about that. Each day that passes this outcome gets less unlikely! As for Briggsy… that would be good!
