So County have actually reached the cup final. No, I didn’t expect to read that statement any time this season either. But Craig Madden’s superb County youth team have seen off local rivals Macclesfield on penalties to reach the FL Youth Cup final.

Defender Reiss Lee rose highest to head home Sam Barnes’ cross in the second-half to cancel out Sam Cook’s opener for the Silkmen, and with no extra-time the match went straight to penalties.

Promising youth keeper Xavier Parisi – rated by Madden as one of the players closest to the first-team squad in his side – saved two Macc penalties while County duly stuck theirs away to set up a Football League Youth Cup final with Queens Park Rangers.

According to County’s website, a neutral venue and time of kick-off has not yet been decided.

Well done to Madden and his young side doing us proud.
