County Statement – Evans’ bid meeting postponed

The following statement regarding Tony Evans’ bid to take a majority stake in County has been released by SCFC.

The shareholders meeting which was scheduled for this morning, to discuss Tony Evans proposals, has been postponed until further notice.

‘We have two outstanding matters that need to be resolved before any proposal can be put before the shareholders. The first is a financial matter involving, in Tony Evans view, a sum of £200,000 which he feels existing shareholders should contribute immediately. This figure is disputed by shareholders who collectively feel that these are not debts but are part of the day to day costs of the football club.’

‘It is hoped that further negotiation will take place in order that a compromise between the two sides can be reached.’

‘The shareholders, at this time, still do not know the composition of the Tony Evans’ consortium. This information is essential before any transaction goes ahead.’

‘On behalf of the football club and the shareholders I hope that the continued negotiations will bring about a successful conclusion.’

Lord Peter Snape, Chairman

So, ‘no deal’ looking the most likely outcome then.

And this latest statement comes after Conduit (Rod Gunner’s group) met with Stockport Council this past week regarding a take-over of County.

The group now seem favourites to take over the club.

Let’s see what Evans can muster up in reply.

Why can’t anything run flaming smoothly for our club?! Its just so disappointing! They’ve had months to sort out these “2 issues” but they leave it to the last minute to say anything!

  • footballtaz1 says:

not good news I can see him walking now and I would not blame him, shambles

2015 group saved our club for which we are all grateful, but nothing stands still in football and if they are not carefull they could end up being the ruination of our club. Regardless of what some people suspect the motives of the TE takeover are, I dont think there is much of an option but to run with it and hope it all works out.

  • iowecounty says:

Looking at TE’s tweets, he’s walked!

It sadens me to say this but if I was Tony Evans I would run a mile from this club, there seems to be a self destruct mentallity and a cancer that seems to run through SCFC, I never thought I would think or say this but I am getting massively more and more disinterested with the farce SCFC. I struggle to get motivated to go to games (felt like that for ages) and when at games I can’t get into them.
This farce has been going on so long that I feel more and more that I myself could walk away and not darken edgeley park again but that decision might be taken away from me as SCFC seems to be in the fast lane to oblivion

Re: above post …..couldn’t walk away but so disappointed with the going’s on at SCFC. Soz for the rant guys.

I think you are echoing what everyone else is thinking Edgeley

No one with a position of influence or money to put things right has a real interest in County. Its all about getting the Council to gift some land. The owner then throws up another flat-pack stadium. Think Scunthorpe (maybe scaled up a bit). Then they build the houses/offices/supermarket or whatever that gives them the profit. So whether it is Tony Evans, 2015 or this Conduit property developnent company – none of them give a toss. My thought is just how low can County fall to justify the need for a stadium and for the Council to gift the land? My gut feel is it wont get that bad but it aint gonna get great anytime soon. So 2015 or 2016 New Edgeley Park on Birdhall Lane… 12,000 featureless stadium, no nearby pubs, owned by the Council, small rent and on we go. Not my vision of heaven. Too gloomy a vision?

Sick of hearing”only got Countys best interest at heart” from these share holders, they are only in it for the money, that’s why THEY ARE share holders cause that’s why they become share holders!! Sorry but I don’t think they give a toss wether county sink or swim as long as they have there money. I know it is there money and we have to have these people but give us a break and let us county fans have something to be happy about for a change!!

I echo everything said above but also add isn’t it about time 2015 took a hike. I know they bailed us out but now it seems the only thing that motivates these people is getting a return on their investments. If they keep on their present course there will be no pot to pick from. Sorry to whine but this is our football club not theirs. Has TE pulled put does anyone know?

  • cropped says:

Looking like TE has walked. He would never reveal who his backers were. Why? We are hostages to fortune as fans and have no say. Cross fingers and hope for the best Vicman!

  • vicman says:

After 3 consecutive years of utter bewilderment that’s about all we can do, like you say cropped we don’t count!!!

Hi non of you have spoken with me before so I’ll introduce myself.
I have been a county fan for 46 yrs so times have not always been good, as you can imagine. The last 2 seasons have been garbage and I agree I have never felt so low.
But there is better days to come believe me a bid has been tabled
by conduit to take over, they have 100M to spend which means New Stadium, new manager new team with Championship League
Football to go with it. Tony Evans was only ever a short term fix, he and his backers are not creditable. Hopefully this bid will be accepted very soon then we can look to regain league status at first attempt. Nobody wants County to fester in the Blue Square,
this is the real deal so remember where and when it was said. Things can and will only get better.

Hi BlueArmyMike, welcome on board. Whisky consumption optional. You paint a nice picture there but property development companies do what they do. Take land. Add value. Beggar off. The rest is incidental. Souless, flat pack, Birdhall lane. 12,000 capacity stadium with the ‘other bits’ that give Conduit their butty. All the above not based on any inside knowledge but I can see nothing positive. Keep posting BAM, if only to balance my depressing posts!

Like BlueArmyMike, this is my first contact on this site. I have been a County fan for 60 years although I cannot claim to have been a regular fan on the terraces – jobs have kept me far away from Stockport and limited my attendance to the occasional match whenever possible. I now live in France so opportunities are even rarer (though I did see the opening game on SKY!). However, you never lose the love for the club which has been in my heart ever since my grandad took me to a game when I was 8 – I stood on an empty beer crate at the old Cheadle End and seem to remember there being about 20000 others there as well! Best memories are beating Luton Town 3-0 in the cup (they were a top team then) with Bill Holden scoring twice. Also the first ever European tie(!!!!) -a friendly with Fortuna FC of Holland to open the lights- brilliant. Like everyone else, I am deeply saddened by the events of the last few years but live in hope that a corner will be turned a some point. I know absolutely nothing about the ins and outs of the current County politics but reading between the lines it always seemed to me that Tony Evans was a bit flash and somewhat dubious – some of his ideas may have been trendy but you don’t make the sort of grand pronouncements that he did (like a new stadium) before you have control of the club. It is also a bit suspicious that the backers names are anonymous. To drop out over 200k (which is peanuts by modern standards) is a bit odd too. I prefer to believe that the current board and shareholders DO have county’s interest at heart and that they WILL steer County towards perhaps a safer buyer – BlueArmyMike’s comments were heartening – I do hope that his info is genuine and not just wishful thinking. Stay optimistic – better times are just around the corner!!

Hi CFIF (is it polite to abbreviate?) – great memories. I started watching County in the 70’s so have seen my share of bad times. Hope BlueArmyMike is right. I really am a miserable devil right now – like a great deal of the folks I sit next to / near. Recent seasons have really got us all down – those bad times in the 70’s and 80’s for some reason don’t seem as bad as right now. Perhaps it’s down to being young and lazy those days!

  • CountyfaninFrance says:

Re my comments above, I’ve just realised that Luton Town (who indeed were a TOP side in the 50s) are in the same boat that we are – it is a small comfort that we are not alone. Spare a thought also for fans of Workington Town, Bradford Park Avenue ( and a few years ago I would have added Accrington Stanley and Aldershot, but they are faring rather better at last)

  • edgeley says:

Hope you are right Blue Army Mike (BAM), maybe TE wasn’t right for our club, who know’s. As for CFIF (easier to abbreviate) was intereste to read your story.
My memories of first times at EP were watching Johnny Price (RIP) on the wing.
We are in a poor state at the moment so hope that BAM is right and there are other people waiting in the wings to rescue SCFC, I do agree that 200k is a very very small amount of moneey to fuss over in the mdern game though

  • Failsworth Kid says:

Here here Johnny Price bless him what good times they were. We didn’t have to worry about Sale Sharks cause Friday night was County night everything belonged to us! Can’t help but wonder where it all started to go wrong and just when it’s going to end because just when you think it can’t get any worse it Does!!

  • vicman says:

Here here FK Friday nights were the best, after the footy an uncle who worked on the shunters at Edgeley mpd would do us egg and bacon on his coal shovel in the engines fire, still never tasted anything like it (had to keep an eye out for the shed foreman, bit of a stickler for rules and regs) but it all added to the excitement for an eight year old. Oh happy happy days
