County v Newport – Game on

Fresh from a 2-1 home win over a very decent Kiddy side a couple of weeks ago County face Newport County, a side a couple of points below the Hatters, in (cliche alert) a real 6-pointer.

The County players have plenty of time to get over knocks, get enough rest and hopefully they have faced yet more time being drilled into what I like to call ‘footballers’ by Mr Gannon down at Manor Farm.

I hope also they are being ‘beasted’ and are now beginning to enjoy much greater levels of fitness. Newport on the other hand played on Tuesday (thumping Carshalton 4-nil in a Trophy game) so may be just that little bit jaded. So get into ’em lads and get that early goal.

Sounds like a back-to-back win for us then, for the first time in what I think is well over 100 games, maybe getting on for 150 games. Hang on a moment though, looking a Newport County’s recent form gives me a little worry. Apart from their 4-0 triumph on Tuesday, they went to Gateshead at won 3-2 and before that had couple of cup victories after a draw against Forest Green. I make that unbeaten in five games. Food for thought then.

No idea whether that new Norwegian keeper with the very long name will be playing, but I don’t think there are many injury problems so Jim should be able to put out his strongest side (or as near as dammit).

Weather forecast is dry but cold with maybe a maximum of one degree above freezing. Not windy though so get yer thermals and gloves on, not forgetting the scarf your father wore, and be part of a gate of I predict, 3,400 to watch a nervous 1-0 victory for Jim Gannons men. Then celebrate back-to-back victories and take a peek at the league table.

Animo and fide folks! (and conservo tepidus for you latin geeks out there)
