Extremely unlucky midfielder Matty Mainwaring has been sidelined for the rest of the season after being taken to hospital to treat a broken hand.

Mainwaring, who was afforded a standing ovation from the crowd at Edgeley Park in County reserves 2-0 defeat to Bolton on Monday night – where he made his first appearance in a Hatters shirt in ten months, broke his leg in a pre-season friendly against Grimsby and has not made a competitive appearance this season.

He looked to be fit for the last few games of the season, but in training today an awkward fall meant the former Preston North End defensive midfielder now has to sit out the remaining three matches.

You have to feel for the lad, must be absolutely gutting – but on another level, I’m sure we’d all agree that it’d be better to give him the rest anyway and make sure his leg is solid and ready for next season.

If we can get him on a contract that is.

Good luck to Matty in his recovery.

Bad luck Matty. Complete R+R for a bit… then refreshed into pre-season training under the watchful eye of Jim Gannon. Oooops…. did I say Gannon there? Come on 2015/JG make that announcement. *Based on wishful thinking alone and no substance as yet.
