Centre-back and holding midfielder Chris Blackburn is set to join County on a free transfer after his release by Wrexham FC.
Blackburn, 29, is to sign a one year-deal with the club and could go straight into the squad for tomorrow’s match against Luton Town – if he is cleared to play in time.
The defender has played for Chester City, Northwich Vics and most recently Wrexham. He made 123 appearances for Morecambe as they won promotion back to the Football League in 2007.
The deal comes after boss Didi Hamann brought in striker Michael Paton on loan from Aberdeen.

Was decent at Morecambe. Hope he can do a job for us although our defence isn’t exactly weak. Put this guy in right-back.
No need for a centre half agree with you kremb right back, we did look a bit iff’y there
I am encouraged. We’ll be OK this season. No trees ripped up but no dramas!
the two lads at centre half are holding us together, left back not bad either, lets hope the new striker can fit right in too. lets hope its the spark weve been waiting for!!
Problem is apparently he left Wrexham because he wanted to be centre back! Also i reckon hell def make the league ugly 11!
@werpremleague although I love Piergianni’s hair. I might even get mine cut like it.
“league ugly 11” – reckon some of us older fans are Premier League on that count. Its forever NOT being beutiful perhaps!
@ cropped. Yeah suppose I wouldn’t want to be the pot to Blackburn’s kettle! At least defenders who have spend some time in the ugly tree aren’t going to let vanity put them off from putting their head in where it hurts!
