Hit for Six

Gutted. Shellshocked and now very worried.

County were hit for six as what masquerades for our defence was ripped to shreds at Carlisle.

As early as the ninth minute when Calisles Hawley twisted and turned Joe Dolan and Danny Griffin and rifled the ball into the corner of the net.

Ludovic Dje wasted a golden opportunity to equalise when he headed over Ross Greenwood’s cross with the goal at his mercy.

If that had been taken who knows but a flurry of three goals in five minutes started with great work by ex Woodley Sports (Woodley I ask you!) Simon Hackney on the left, was followed by a cross nodded on by Hawley and headed home by Derek Holmes.

To say that keeper Carl Ikeme suffered a personal nightmare is an understatement. He punched Paul Arnison’s seemingly harmless cross into his own net. Mind you he could do nothing when Holmes struck home Raphael’s Nade’s cross.

Half time and it was already game over.

Chris Turner made three substitutions at half time which stemmed the tide for a little although County still needed a block on the line by Mark robinson and two smart saves by Ikeme before Hawley added his second in the 76th minute when he headed home Chris Lumsdon’s corner from close range.

Hawley completed his hat trick in the 81st minute slotting home Glenn Murray’s low cross.

So there we have it.

County have to forget this and bounce straight back because if they dont we could be in for one hell of a rough ride the season.

Do not, whoever you are, mention the R word yet though. There are two worse teams than County in the division arent there!
