Jim Gannon has confirmed to County fans that he still has money left in his transfer kitty for this season in a recent interview.

He said ‘The board have explained to me how much money is available and I haven’t spent it all.’

So far in the pre-season he has signed two players, both from League One clubs, Tony Dinning from Port Vale and Michael Rose from Yeovil and he has also loaned Gareth Owen for one season from another League One club Oldham Athletic.

Rumours are also suggesting that County have made a offer for Peterborough United captain Dean Holden, and with Posh`s financial state not looking too good they may have to accept the offer – opening the door for Holden to move to County.

‘We feel at this stage to add the quality we need, we’re probably going to have to bring in loan players. It worked well for us last year and so we’re quietly confident we’re going to have better players in all the attacking positions over the next couple of weeks and we need to bolster central midfield, maybe a right-back and another keeper.’

At the end of last season, the midfield was made up of purely loan signings – Jamie Ward (Aston Villa, now Torquay), Kevin O`Connor (Wolves), Jason Taylor (Oldham) and Adam Griffin (Oldham). Three of those players, O`Connor, Taylor and Griffin have all been mentioned in rumours for possible returns to Edgeley Park this season.

‘I’m looking forward to adding some quality players in the next couple of weeks and giving a chance to few non-league players who I feel can play at this level.’ He added.

Trialists have been tried so far in the three pre-season friendlies, with Burke and McGuire looking impressive in midfield, they are both from non-league clubs.

Did you have a few drinks last night BLF?! I agree though, the main position that is the worry for me are the two wings. For the starting day of the season I think the team will look something like this
Spencer, RB (Holden?) , Williams, Owen, Rose, RM , Dinning, CM, LM, Bramble, Malcolm
