Jim Gannon made an appearance as one of three studio guests tonight on BBC Radio Manchester. With much talk about other things, including the World Cup and next week`s Wimbledon (Henman won`t win again), County were mentioned a little bit.

First the presenter asked Jimbo how he did it and what he did when he came in. Jim said that he had changed the system of play from what it was under Chris Turner, and that this was a big gamble.

He thought that the system we were using under Turner wasn`t the right system for the set of players we had so he changed it and the players certainly looked more energised, and then the results came and that changed the confidence.

Jimbo also said that he had to try and find a system that suited the squad of players he inherited, and said that he found the right one but had to change it later on towards the end of the season. The first one he used was 4-3-2-1, before he changed it to 4-4-2.

The presenter later asked Jimbo if the River Mersey was full of gold, who would he sign?

However, the answer was slightly different to the question. Jimbo said that he thought the perfect holding midfielder was Tony Dinning, because he then allows the team to play two attacking midfielders.

The presenter then started talking about City with one of the other studio guests and brought up Georgi Kinkladze. Jim said the way to play him was to man-mark him which we did at Edgeley Park. Jimbo added that Tony Dinning was the man that did it, and perfectly, and that County won the game easily – and it was one of the best days ever at Edgeley Park.

Then finally he was asked whether County would win the first game of the season, and of course the answer was yes. With a great crowd behind us we can beat Hereford and get off too a good start.

Of course we will win the first game! And the second, and the third! Top of the league after the first week!

4-4-2 for me from day 1. Really looking forward to Hereford as 1st match though I think we could have had easier starts. The Bulls will be really fired up for it!
