Stockport County are set to complete the signing of 23 year old Swindon Town defender Andrew Nicholas.

Nicholas began his career at Liverpool as a trainee, before being picked up by Swindon Town on a free after he was released by Liverpool. He started 97 times for Swindon and made over a 100 appearances for the Robins.

He appeared in 35 league games for Swindon last season, one of the 11 games he did not feature in was the 3-0 win at Edgeley Park when County broke the Football League record for clean sheets and wins.

In February Nicholas was caught drink driving and was arrested, he was further banned from driving for 19 months.

That may present a problem for County, however all is not bad about the defender.

Standing at 6ft 2in high he is a tall defender, and whilst at Liverpool he was timed to be QUICKER than Michael Owen.

At the moment the move is unclear as to whether it would be a permanent transfer or a season-long loan, however we will bring you more news when we have it here at Vital Stockport.
