Hello and welcome to latest Stockport County segment in the world of Vital Football, here we are in the last final stages of this season with under 10 games left.

Results have been mixed recently but we are still a firm contender in the race for a play off position, level on points its currently only on goal difference that we are in 6th as opposed to the top 5 finish that we need.

In fact we are only 5 points away from being 2nd in the league so you can see how close things are at the moment. Only Darlington are close to us – so realistically we have 6 teams fighting for 4 places! Certainly an exciting end to a decent season (for a change).

Recent games played saw us beat Ashton 3-1 after a draw against play off rivals Chorley, last month saw us beat Stalybridge and FC United while drawing against Alfreton and loosing against Kidderminster away.

Squad wise we have increased our midfield with the signing of 27 year old Harry Winter – who manager Gannon states has “a positive influence on the pitch”. We have also re-signed striker Sefton Gonzales to try to add to our fire power up front.

With these two players we now have more formation options and – what I would say – are two decent signings.

Danny Lloyd seems to have been a gift from God this season and when I recently heard that he`s played 40 games, scored 23 goals and set up another 19 I really hope he`ll stay on for at least another season.

He`s certainly player of the season and I`m looking forward to shaking his hand at the end of season awards.

Over the next few weeks we see ourselves play Salford away this weekend (who are 2nd) before we travel to Fylde who are running away with the title currently 11 points clear. These are two very important and hard games and I would be overjoyed with 4 points out of 6, we`re currently 2nd in the league on away form so anything is possible.

After that we play Tamworth and Nuneaton at home, before Gainsborough away so those games could very well either make or break our season before the final push.

Personal life wise I`ve currently re-located to north Wales with my wife and am trying to adjust on my daily commute to work, I`m used to traveling past high rise tower block flats and industrial estates so its a shock (or should that be ‘nice change’) to now drive along side fields with sheep, swans and horses on nice country roads.

Although I`m going to need a padded seat if I keep going over cattle grids on my motorbike…

I`ve also recently started selling a few county shirts I acquired in bulk, for anyone who doesn`t know I only collect shirts from 1995 onwards so I`ve had the pleasure of selling some right crackers from the 1960`s, 70`s, 80`s and 90`s..but I`m certainly not going to try and plug them on this page, its not like if you search ‘Stockport County Shirts` on Facebook they will come up (cough).

So onwards and upwards and if your lucky enough to have managed to get one of the 500 tickets allocated for the Salford game on Saturday, make sure you get behind the lads and travel safe.

[ Ed – that Facebook page can be found here! Have a look if you are into your County shirts. ]
