Stockport County got off to the perfect start in 2013 with a victory at Hyde United in front of 2000 travelling County fans.

County were looking for revenge from the Boxing Day defeat, after the Stockport based team beat their hosts 2-0 at Edgeley Park.

Early efforts from Jon Nolan and Matty Mainwairing but the Hyde defence saw them away, whilst the early threat from Tom Collins on the right hand side was soon blanked out by a good defensive performance by the ex County full back Adam Griffin.

Spencer nearly gave Hyde the lead just before the 20 minute mark. A through ball found its way through the weak County defence but Spencer was stopped by Ormson, the follow up shot was blocked by Jordan Fagbola on the line t the delight of the County fans behind that goal.

The second half was much better for County and after around 55 marks Hyde looked to start tiring County had all the better of the game.

Tom Collins had a shot from distance blocked, whilst Connor Jennings couldn’t get his shot away when under pressure from the Hyde defence.

Alex Kenyon nearly gave County the lead when he beat two men but then had a powerful shot blocked by the Hyde keeper.

It was from the following corner that County got the lead. Tom Collins whipped a ball in and Jennings got up at the near post to loop his header over all the defenders and into the far post.

The rest of the game was to be dominated by County and Jennings had another shot blocked just before the final whistle, and Craig Hobson had a good effort saved just as it neared the top corner.

In the end County got the three points they had desired for a while, the first win since November in the league and it stands County in good stead for the rest of the month with some tough January games coming up.
