Northampton Town v Stockport County Report

Northampton Town 4 Stockport County 0. Was I bothered? Well, yes, but since the play-offs were realistically out of reach before this game, and what with tomorrow looking like a momentous day in the clubs 125 year history, my thoughts are elsewhere.

I think the same may be said of the manager and players to be honest. I did not go to the game and my usual reliable mate who did go has not been contactable. No viaduct jumpers this weekend I hope?

So apologies for the rubbish report of facts cobbled together.

The County team that line up was;

Fon Williams, Tunnicliffe, McNeil, Raynes, Rose, McSweeney, Blizzard, Tansey, Mainwaring ,Rowe and O’Grady.

Tunnicliffe was replaced by Oli Johnson on 65 (is there still a fitness issue with the kid cos I would love him to start)

McSweeney replaced by Ennis on 76 (was this his debut? Can’t remember seeing him play before)

Mainwaring was replaced at half time by ‘pitbull’ (Turnbull) , Rowe, O’Grady.

The BBC report County were ‘lacklustre’. Fon Williams dropped the ball for one of their goals.

McSweeney played a pass across the edge of his own box in the 72nd minute and the Guttridge intercepting drilled the ball in for the Cobblers’ third. McSweeney subbed shortly after.. bet he does not start the next game.

Another account describes County as ‘shocking all over the pitch’.

Before we all slit our wrists though, time for a reality check. A mid-table position at this stage of the season was higher than many had forecast. We will be a league one team next season. Lots of young players have been blooded and Oli Johnson in particular looks a great prospect. So all in all there are good things to reflect on.

Got a better match report. Let me know… on second thoughts maybe not!

My thoughts about what happens tomorrow will be the subject of another article later today. I need to be in the right frame of mind to write it.
