Oh Stockport Town !

It may have slipped past under the radar for many County fans but a new ‘thing’ has appeared in the borough, destined to play at Woodley Sports (or whatever they are now called).

Stockport Town FC is the name of the new club and before the recent walking-away of some of County’s shareholders at least, shared senior personnel with County.

Rob Clare, late of our club is involved too.

So, should we be worried?

Some say that the club has been set up to profit from any demise of Stockport County and should be looked at as a threat in the future.

Others say that the club exists to provide opportunity for decent football players to get on the pitch and play at a reasonable level.

This reasonable level was to be Step 6 in the pyramid (County are at step 2 for those still reeling with the shock of where we are).

Mind, what about Cheadle Town or Woodley ? Don’t they offer opportunity for football players of a slightly lower ability than those currently soldiering along at Edgeley Park?

My view is that this club could well become competition in the medium term and begin to nibble away at our fan base so I welcome the news that Stockport Town have been knocked back at Step 6 by the North West Counties League.

Their statement is here

Is it telling that the FA’s statement included this?

‘…They were also mindful of the need to protect clubs already operating in the National League System and to try to ensure that their status in maintained’.

Of course all this would be academic if we were back in the league or even looked like we were set up to make an assault on the Football Conference but that dear reader does not look like it is happening.

More thoughts on that once I can stomach putting pen to paper (or keyboard to something or other).

In the the meantime, join with me humming that little ditty.

Oh Stockport Town ! Is wonderful ! It’s full of something, something or other and COUNTY.

Oh Stockport Town is wonderful.

Cropped.

I for one have never seen Stockport Town as anything other than a joke, it just goes to show what clowns we have had recently running our beloved Club into the Ground. Good Riddance to them all including Rob Clare – after all who’s he ? just another Football Player. Our Priority is to get back into the Football League as quickly as possible otherwise it will never happen.

I am with you Mike…..what a risible shower!
Its just sad, but typically County, that we apparently have arranged a friendly against them. If I did not know better I would surmise that our embryo CEO was back on board!

Friendly against who ? Who at the club in their right mind sanctioned this? FFS, is the agenda to get money back and then torpedo the club once the shareholders are even again? Then the other shareholders who ‘walked away’ (my arse) pick up the pieces with this incarnation.
The time to fight for our club is now.

I can not understand why we would acknowledge their existence let alone want to play a friendly against them, as I have said they are a Joke and a sick one at that. I for one will not be going to anything to do with Stockport Town as it makes my blood boil. Oh for a Euro Millions win this Friday 109M – I would be in like a shot and heads would roll, it would be carnage but we would be back in the Football League in 2 years time – if only.
