‘Pistol Pete’ Rejoins Linfield

Peter Thompson has tonight rejoined former club Linfield in a loan deal until the end of the season after County agreed to let the number nine go ‘back home’ to N. Ireland.

Boss David Jeffrey spoke to Linfield’s official website.

‘I can confirm that Peter Thompson has tonight agreed to sign on loan for Linfield until the end of the season. I can also confirm that Stockport County have kindly agreed to let Peter join us on loan for the rest of the season.

We were delighted and very proud that Peter got his chance across the water but to say that I am delighted and ecstatic tonight that he’s rejoining us on loan would be a major understatement.

In the present set of circumstances it would appear to be in the best interests of Peter to come home and play for us for the rest of the season. We are absolutely thrilled to have him back at Linfield as we know what a quality player he is.

I’ve been on record several times saying that while we’ve been playing well, we haven’t been killing teams off and the one thing we’re sure about Peter is that he is a deadly finisher. We’re hoping he can give us the clinical cutting edge we’ve been lacking.

What’s really pleasing is that Peter is very keen to rejoin us. He’s a real True Blue and I want to personally thank the Team Committee and the Management Committee in backing me in this move to bring Peter home. It all happened very swiftly in the last day or so and Peter has told me he wants to come home and get playing for us again as soon as possible.

I an grateful to Stockport for the way they conducted matters. Once we made contact all the business has been conducted through the proper channels and they have thanked us for the way we’ve handled the matter’.

So, there we go…first departure of the transfer window and Pistol Pete’s on his way out. Never showed quite what he can do for the Hatters, but more than proved himself with Linfield, and I’m sure the Irish lot will be delighted with the striker returning to what they all feel is his spiritual home in footballing terms.

While it never really happened for Thommo at EP, it’s still a slightly sad move as he never really proved himself in England and every County fan desperately wanted it to work for him as a genuine nice guy, but none-the-less he never put in less than 100% and we’d like to thank him for the effort and wish him well on his return to Northern Ireland.
