County travel to Roots Hall today, looking to keep their unbeaten away record in tact.

Defender Gaz Owen hasn’t even travelled with the squad today, and with two new defenders coming in from Premiership clubs, this may spell the end for the former skipper.

Vital Quotes:

Jim Gannon: ‘I was expecting a little bit more from some of the players in the team I put out at Gigg Lane and they didn’t deliver.’

‘I’m just disappointed that some players have tremendous attitudes and tremendous ability while others don’t come anywhere near them.’

Southend Team News:

BBC Sport:

Southend striker Dougie Freedman (thigh) is out as the Shrimpers chase their fifth consecutive league victory.

Southend’s only other injury concern is goalkeeper Steve Mildenhall, who is still two weeks away from a return because of his ankle injury.

The former Chelsea man pulls all the strings in the centre of the field for Southend, and will be looking forward to a good battle with Gary Dicker today.

County Team News:

County will likely be fielding both of our new loan signings, full-back Tony Kane and centre-half Jarek Fojut. Newcastle youngster Fraser Forster will start in goal as Owain Fon Williams is away on international duty, as is Peter Thompson. Jason Taylor should also be part of the squad again.

The big Bolton defender had rave reviews on loan at the other Hatters, Luton Town last season. He made 23 apps and scored three times.

Described as a ‘good old fashioned’ defender, County’s scouts revealed theat they had been tracking Fojut for a year.
