Stockport County appoint complete unknown

Stockport County have today announced the appointment of Darije Kalezic as manager.

Darije Kalezic has come completely out of left field, with previous links to Ryan McKnight through Guus Hiddink – making it no surprise it would be somebody that was known to McKnight despite him only being in the role a week (although he doesn’t start till the 1st February).

He played for FK Vele? Mostar in his homeland Bosnia, and then moved to the Netherlands as player for FC Den Bosch, RKC Waalwijk, AGOVV Apeldoorn, De Graafschap – before he retired in 2006.

After spending time as manager of De Graafschap he had a short spell at Zulte Waregem before being sacked after just six months in charge.

He was apparently lined up to be one of the coaches as Guus Hiddink was lined up to take charge of Chelsea but Kalezic seeked work elsewhere as a manager.

What worries most County fans is his apparent lack of knowledge of the English Lower Leagues and the huge gamble that has been taken by the board as we enter February still in a relegation battle.

However we wish Darije all the best in charge – good luck.
