Stockport ‘Ruined’ Me

Paul Simpson has left Northwich Victoria today, after only one month to take a position in Portugal as Youth Development coach of a new Portuguese side. In speaking to Talk Sport this morning Paul explains to the radio station his ‘torrid` time at Stockport.

Paul who was appointed manager in July 2011, following the clubs relegation to League 2 and recent commerce from Administration had a big task ahead of him, but he called it a ‘project`. Paul has today stated he was ‘in two minds` about taking the job but it was down to the ‘directors` at the club to make Paul change his mind.

When Paul was in stated as manager he told Talk Sport his goal set by the board was to finish ‘third from bottom` and attain survival through a period of ‘stabilisation` and a period of transgression for The Hatters. Paul has stated that he had upmost respect for Alwin Thompson, but that he felt undermined by The County ‘board` throughout his time at the club, Paul stated his determination to continue his hard efforts stating that he and his family were in it for the ‘long run`.

At the start of January 2011 Paul Simpson was notified that his tenure at Stockport was to cease with immediate effect. Paul has gone on to say that his time at Stockport was a ‘disaster`, this can be seen through Paul`s statistics at the club, as he has a shockingly low win rate of 18%, in Pauls 27 game tenure he only managed 5 wins whilst drawing 10 and loosing 12.

Following Pauls sacking from County he felt like his experience of ‘broken promises` had put him off football for good and did not want to manage a football side again. After taking a long break from football Paul was appointed caretaker manager of Northwich Victoria in January 2012 but stated he was looking for a Academy Director Position at a club, to try and work with young adults thus using his several ‘professional` qualifications to good use.

Pauls son Jake is no longer in professional football but does play for semi professional club Workington FC in the Blue Square North, but his full time job is a personal trainer. Paul stated that Stockport ‘ruined` Jake`s ambitions through the ‘way he was treated`.

To sum up Stockport Paul described the club as ‘an accident waiting to happen` throughout his time at the club the ‘broke promises`. There is not a lot County fans can say to that, but in response I can say that throughout his tenure at the club there were very few successful times, change was needed and that occurred, Jim is now at the helm and success is just a sniff away.
