Take-Over Agreed


A take-over of Stockport County from the Melrose Consortium has today been agreed, and the finalisation of the deal could be merely 24 hours away.

The Melrose Consortium, headed by ex-City Jim Melrose and backed by a group of businessmen with sporting backgrounds, today released a short statement through their spokesperson:

The administrators of Stockport County Association Football Club have agreed terms with the Melrose Consortium for the sale of the football club. The consortium is comprised of a group of businessmen with a sporting background and is headed by Jim Melrose.

A further statement will be issued shortly, however a spokesperson for the Melrose consortium said: ‘We look forward to developing a fruitful relationship with Sale Sharks and Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council which will provide the basis for a successful future for Stockport County Football Club.’

Leonard Curtis, administrators of Stockport County Football Club, have today announced that they have agreed terms with the Melrose Consortium for the sale of the club.

Paul Reeves, one of the joint administrators commented that: ‘Whilst a deal has been agreed, it is subject to the Melrose Consortium obtaining landlord approval. This is a positive step to safeguarding the club’s future.’
