Three Points Dropped?

After arriving at the ground 15 minutes late because of delays on the M62 I was looking forward to seeing County line up.

County lined up as followed: Ormson, Halls, O’Donnell (Piergianni 6), Halls, Connor (Whitehead 74), Turnbull, Mainwaring (Cole 56), Rowe, Nolan, McConville and Elliot.

A early injury in the 6th minute to Danny O’Donnell saw a change to Jim’s plans with the introduction of Carl Piergianni after six minutes for the injured Danny O’Donnell who was stretchered off the pitch.

County created several chances in the first half but nothing materialised, the best chance came to Tom Elliot who has a chance to put The Hatters in the lead from 20 yards but his shot was too weak to beat the York keeper.

A counter attacking County team was seen in the first half through the use of the wingers Rowe and McConville, but the only real chances came from crosses that lead to nothing.

The injury to Danny O’Donnell could have been a blessing in disguise for County as a new partnership of Joe Connor and Carl Pieregianni was seen and it was also successful, this along with the works of Holden and Halls.

The second half saw Ashley Chambers of York switched to the right wing too try and extradite the left back Euan Holden, this often worked for periods of the second half, with Chambers beating the County left back on several occasions creating several attacking opportunities for the home side.

County were on top for the first third of the second half snatching a goal from the individual effort of on-loan striker Danny Rowe as he struck in the 52nd minute putting County 1-0 in the lead.

County’s main aim now was to keep the ball and to try and push for a second and to keep tight at the back.

In stead of this County allowed York to attack them and pose a serious threat for the last half hour of the game, Ashley Chambers was giving Holden a rough time at left back, this saw Carl Pieregianni switched with the American left back giving more security to the left flank.

On the 56th minute a tired Matty Mainwaring left the pitch with his place taken by Aaron Cole, County looked more upbeat following the change with a injection of pace into midfield.

York were not giving up and pressed the County defence having 6 goal scoring chances in 10 minutes, one of which hitting the post, one hitting the bar and two missing completely with one great save from County’s Ian Ormson.

Upon the 74th minute a disaster struck for County with Joe Connor going down injured and unable to continue therefore Paul Turnbull was places in the centre back position. Iam Ormson and Carl Piergianni both received injuries but managed to play on.

Ashley Chambers cross lead the first goal for York in the 84nd minute this goal was scored by Jamie Reed making the score 1-1. There was no point in County trying to attack and it seemed a draw would be a good result.

York kept pressing the County defence, it looked like a draw was on the cards until the forth official calculated 5 minutes of injury time, this giving York more time to press for the winner.

In the 90 + 5.23 minute York had a chance to win the game and they took it through the second half substitute Matthew Blinkhorn scoring well into the depth of extra time. In the end it seemed like County were unlucky as they played really well as a team and it looked a real team performance, under Jim there has defiantly been a improvement but results are now needed, with Danny O’Donnell and Joe Connor a doubt for next week it could symbolise a real problem for Jim.
