England are set to play the first proper international game at the New Wembley tonight, but is it just me who thinks Wembley isn’t what it was built up to be?
It’s been on the telly for five games in the last two weekends and to me it just seems as though it isn’t what it used to be at all. Its just another plastic stadium with an oversized attraction that cost far too much money, what was the point in building the Emirates and Wembley and opening them in the same season?
This morning Brazil are complaining about the grass ahead of tonight’s game, which was something I spotted when watching the FA Cup final. The grass was far too long and it was spoiling the game, but the spectacle wasn’t anything it was built up to be. The FA Cup is supposed to have magic, like when we went 1-0 up against Watford in the 3rd round, but the final wasn’t related to any of the previous games in anyway and it was just another boring clash of the titans.
It’s been spoilt has tonight. The first England game was supposed to be a huge spectacle, but to be honest it should have been the first game at Wembley.
Of course the game is going to be big. McClaren should be sacked so the media attention is there, and also with Beckham coming back the media have jumped on his back as you can see from the newspapers this morning.
But its not as big as it should be. Wembley has been a let down. The prices they are charging are ridiculous, it looks exactly the same as every other new stadium thats built nowadays (it just looks like Darlington’s stadium but four times bigger with a huge circle on top of it) and it took far too long to build (it also cost far too much).
Do you agree or disagree with me?
I’m pretty certain that most people would agree. England going on the road worked in my opinion, it gave more people a chance to see the national side and the prices were very competitive. Why couldn’t the FA Cup final be played at the Emirates or Old Trafford, or even the Millenium Stadium still?
