Come On County!

So here it is then. The biggest derby of the world, in the universe, ever. Possibly.

Paul Simpson’s County squad travel to Moss Rose for our first local derby of the season against neighbours Macclesfield, with The Hatters following hitting around 1700-2000.

While most fans are looking forward to the day out and the atmosphere, there isn’t a lot of optimism in the air as we look for our first win of the season, and our first win since March of last season.

I’m purely of the view that if we get a spanking at the hands of Macclesfield, then we’re in deep trouble.

It’s Simmo vs Simmo at Moss Rose as Paul Simpson leads his County side into battle with Gary Simpson’s Town side.

Our Simmo has been bemoaning the administrators involvement with SCFC this week as he signed Robbie Williams up to a full-time deal. And just now, we’ve completed the signings of goalkeeper and County fan Matt Glennon, and son of Paul Simpson, Jake – a winger who won the Young Player Of The Year at Shrewsbury Town last season – where he was managed by his dad Paul.

Vital Quotes:

Paul Simpson:”We’ve got players in the football club who are used to losing games of football but because of what the administrator did by giving contracts to everybody we can’t change anything.’

‘As much as I would like to do something, we can’t. We’ve got to work with the ones we’ve got. We’ve got to try to lift them and we’ve got to get them to realise the importance of doing things properly.’

Macclesfield Town Team News:

Former County winger Matty Hamshaw has been struggling with a toe injury and Gary Simpson rates him as ’50-50′ for the derby.

Ross Draper should return along with striker Emile Sinclair.

Player to watch: Matty Hamshaw

If he is fit, the winger is an obvious choice. A good player at this level, fell foul of ex-County boss Jim Gannon with apparent poor attitude problems, but always poses a threat.

Stockport County Team News:

Robbie Williams, fresh from signing a one-year deal with County, is hoping to regain fitness after he picked up an ankle knock in the Wycombe match three weeks back. The left-back hasn’t lost in a County shirt yet.

Fellow summer signing Jordan Rose hasn’t made his debut for The Hatters yet, but he’s been back in light training this week and after working with physio Rodger Wylde, the youngster’s raring to go.

Player to watch: George Donnelly

Donnelly made a ‘come and get me’ plea this week to County chairman Alwin Thompson, the loanee striker wants a full-time deal with The Hatters.

He’s been our biggest threat this season with pace and strength and goals, and he most definitely would have scored more by now if he had better service than everyone lumping it forward for him to chase.
