McNeil Costs County

Matty McNeil cost County a victory last night at the Walkers Stadium after a silly mistake in the heart of defence.

County had dominated the opening 20 minutes of the game, and should have really took the lead after less than five minutes.

Anthony Pilkington was played in by a pin point through ball, and he was through on goal, one-on-one with Martin, but he spooned his shot over the bar.

McSweeney went close with a 25 yard effort after a corner was cleared after ten minutes, people realised County weren’t here to make up the numbers.

But then when the backline was keeping the ball well, McNeil tried one stupid mistake, trying to take Howard on on the edge of his own area. Howard won the ball, and then McNeil pulled him down. Straight red card, and the game was practically over.

Howard was the person to give Leicester the goal they wanted, it was quite lucky really, Leicester used the space well on the left hand side and got the full back up high, he put in a ball into the box and Howard just threw himself at the ball, with the ball going into the bottom corner.

County made some changes at half-time, changed the system, but didn’t really create many chances. We still kept the ball well but didn’t create anything at the other end.

In the very last minute, McSweeney put a ball across that Martin couldn’t get, it just needed somebody at the back post to nod home the ball but just like County’s luck that night nobody was there.

So, the Carling Cup is over, but nevermind. Leicester again on Saturday!
