Ward still believes in Hatters survival

Stockport County manager Peter Ward is still optimistic that has side can avoid relegation from the football league, despite their latest defeat resulting in a 4-1 humiliation at home to rivals Macclesfield.

The Hatters are rooted inside the relegation zone, a point behind Burton Albion who have an incredible seven games in hand over the Cheshire club. And despite appearing to give themselves a lifeline last weekend when they were victorious at home to Bury, it would appear as though this latest defeat could spell the end of Stockport`s stay in the football league.

Speaking to BBC Radio Manchester, Ward said, ‘` This defeat is certainly a big blow to us but we have to keep believing. We`re still in there within touching distance and until it`s mathematically impossible that we won`t stay up then we`ll still be fighting.

`At the same time we realise that we`ve put ourselves in a position now where we are going to have to win a large number of our remaining games because the league games are starting to run out as are the points that remain available. But one is for sure and that`s that we won`t give up without a fight.“
