Ward still believes in Hatters survival

Stockport County manager Peter Ward is still optimistic that has side can avoid relegation from the football league, despite their latest defeat resulting in a 4-1 humiliation at home to rivals Macclesfield.

The Hatters are rooted inside the relegation zone, a point behind Burton Albion who have an incredible seven games in hand over the Cheshire club. And despite appearing to give themselves a lifeline last weekend when they were victorious at home to Bury, it would appear as though this latest defeat could spell the end of Stockport`s stay in the football league.

Speaking to BBC Radio Manchester, Ward said, ‘` This defeat is certainly a big blow to us but we have to keep believing. We`re still in there within touching distance and until it`s mathematically impossible that we won`t stay up then we`ll still be fighting.

`At the same time we realise that we`ve put ourselves in a position now where we are going to have to win a large number of our remaining games because the league games are starting to run out as are the points that remain available. But one is for sure and that`s that we won`t give up without a fight.“

Pllease resign Peter Ward you are a really decent guy but just not a number 1 I cannot see a way back for us given our midfield is so very very poor it is massively sad that this once great football club is in free fall to oblivion, I am Stockport through and through and I love to say I was born in Stockport but I will not just turn up to watch a passionless display as I did yesterday just because I am from Stockport. Please do the right thing and leave the club immediately, good lord we are a poor side the worst I have ever seen…. passionless, clueless, with no heart for the fight. Turnbull and Tansey are the worst midfield players I have ever seen who get a wage from the game

I don’t know, Paul Turnbull actually fights for it, and Tansey is off and on. We’re all talking about oh new defenders needed, we need to replace Lynch and either push Griffin to LM or bench him. As for Glennon, drop him to the bench, even at 32 he is past it, we need a spring of a young goalkeeper. Matty Edwards at Rochdale (sub GK) ain’t a bad GK, I bet he can improve like Ruddy, like Hennessey, like Fon Williams.

Lynch is a very poor player and he is in good company but it’s the midfield that make a team tick always has been always will be …. it doesn’t matter how off and on Turnbull is he just isn’t good enogh, as for Tansey he is garbage. No doubt when we go down to wherever league Turnbull and Tansey will find other clubs whilst we will possibly turn up and watch us in whatever league playing at whatever ground we can afford to pay.

Dear oh dear Pete, delusional as well as a rubbish manager. Fine words but the players either aren’t listening or don’t believe you, resign now please

People have been saying how ashamed they are to support County. Absolutely no Stockport County supporter should feel ashamed. In fact just the opposite. The vocal support generated from the Cheadle End was nothing short of magnificent (proves my point about the daft Pop side idea). There arnt many teams at any level that would get that level of vocal support in a position like ours. All clubs are made up of – Those that own the club, those that run the buisness of the club, those that run the playing side, the players and finally but not least the supporters. Owners, directors, managers and players all come and go The one constant in any club are the supporters. You get two types of supporter – You get the football supporter who follows a club. This kind of supporter expects to see decent football but if its not forthcoming their support wavers and they start to miss games or stop going to games altogether until things improve. Then you have the club supporter who sees quality football as a bonus the most important thing is the result. The club supporter will follow the club no matter how bad things get. Fortunately County have a large following of the latter who have the added bonus of being very vocal. So if like me you are a Stockport County Club supporter be proud, be very proud. I actually support 4 teams – Stockport County of course, but also England and absolutely anyone who plays Burnley or Scotland.

NE – you sound like me’! Great post. Agree with every letter. WE are Stockport County and WE will never disappear. Proud of our Town, proud of the club. OK the team is awful now but we will rise again. If anything, these last few years just makes me dig my heels in even more. Didn’t go down to Merseyway yesterday to show my colours (I dont own a top for a start) BUT to all those that went I would say well done! We need to get groups of fans together to spread the word and improve our visiblity. WE AIN’T GOING AWAY fellow Stopfordians. We need to start painting curbs royal blue and white in our borough (half joking). Remember the Danny stencilled little paint job? Things like that keep it burning for me. I believe there is another rash of stickers due to appear as well. Again, well done to those concerned. We need County on Tour in our own town to fly the flag, get the club in peoples faces, free tickets for kids and re-build. Rant over.

NE & KC, on the nose my boys, we all bleed blue for the cause, no matter where we play, who we play we ARE the COUNTY. OK so it was galling to hear on saturday but true fans get over things like this and move on to the next game. We’re not done yet. County since 59 bring it on

  • vicman says:

Cropped, you’re a bit quiet mate??????????????

  • cropped says:

Lol, sulking vicman. 47 years old and still like a 5 year old!

  • FRM says:

Snap, I feel the same cropped, but come saturday I know I’ll be hoping for 3pts.. If not 3pts atleast a performance.

  • iowecounty says:

I, like Wardy, am also delusional. Before Saturday, I had a week where I couldn’t wait for Saturday’s game. For once I was so confident, but when their first goal went in, I saw the team visibly lose their confidence and was gutted with the team’s reaction. If we can reproduce the Bury performance then we will stay up. Macc were in freefall (they will be again) as are Burton – they may have 7 games in hand but I don’t think they’ll win them. Even if we do go down – without doubt we’ll have the best following in the conference!

  • vicman says:

We’re not in the conference yet guys, other teams still have to put points on the board and until there’s no possible escape I’m smiling, yes I might be a bit loopy but they’ve been my County for 52 out of my 60 yrs. They still will be when I get the wooden overcoat, then my lassie’s following me so there’ll be a County presence up hear for a good few yet especilly if we can convert my grandson. We fight on.

  • vicman says:

All the results around us last night were in our favour (22-2-11) so we still dream of survival, as I said the others have to put points on the board. I ain’t giving up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • NorwikshireExiles says:

Weve had all the moaners and groaners, its great to hear all the supportive comments above for our club. This is what we need glass half full people. So what if we do take the drop. Yes I’ll be gutted for a while but then we work on getting back bigger and stronger. How can we fail with supporters like ours.

  • vicman says:

Says it all, NE, says it all best supporters in the world bar none

  • cropped says:

Right. Got over my sulk. I have gone through my period of mourning and have come to terms with Conference Football. It is going to be crap and Kennedy will have to significantly lower our rent at EP but I will go to a few games next season. Lord knows (pun intended) what our team will look like next season but I will be there keeping the flame alight for another few years and looking forward to a promotion campaign in the not too distant future. Animo et Fide has never meant to much.

  • cropped says:

    * Animo et fide has never meant SO much * [sausage fingers]

  • iowecounty says:

More optimism – one of our rivals WILL go into administration before the end of the season and have a 10 point deduction – remember – you heard it here first!!!

  • FRM says:

Peter taylor is leaving Bradford after the weekend, I wonder why?
