Ablett Predicts Swift End To Drought

With the firepower of Jabo Ibehre and George Donnelly, it’s a bit of a surprise that we haven’t scored in just over six hours of football.

Or maybe not…considering Donnelly was bizarrely hooked after twenty-five minutes against Oldham, you can see why!

To be fair, I was pretty annoyed and baffled with that decision after Danny Swailes’ straight red card on Tuesday that Ablett swapped Donnelly for defender Andy Halls straight away – but hearing the Scouser’s post-match interview, you have to feel for him.

Yes, he’s been able to bring in his own players and start to gel his own team, but you do have to say that while opposing manager’s can throw on a super-sub to change a faltering match, our substitutes bench consist of the likes of the Barnes twins, Sam Hare and Cameron Darkwah. All with precisely zero senior appearances between them.

Anyway, Ablett is ‘confident’ that the dry-up of goals will end on Saturday with the visit of Brentford, with Jabo and Donnelly to continue up front and the possible return of pacey winger Jemal Johnson.

‘We’re certainly getting into the position to score, if we weren’t then that would be a worry.’

‘Against Oldham, Jabo Ibehere had a one-on-one with the goalkeeper, Johnny Mullins had a header, and we’ve had another cleared off the line.’

‘Danny’s a big loss and it will be a difficult game against Brentford. But we gave them a decent game down there. It was mostly even-stevens and for 40 minutes of the second half we were better than them.’

Come on County.
