Back to the League

So what did we think of the Chester game?

Can you believe I was on my way to the ground at around 2.30pm and out of all the moments in life, some fool pulls out at the Go Outdoors car park crashing into us.

To count our blessings no one was hurt (which was the main thing) but the car wouldn`t start meaning we had to get a pull home.

So I missed the (semi) comeback, I missed Scott Spencer`s wonder goal and I also missed my name getting shouted out after he scored (as I sponsor him).

But never mind??.I saw the goal via the BBC website and hopefully he will score loads more this season at equal quality.

Now that our mini cup run is over let`s get back to the league, we are about a 3rd of the way through the season sitting in 7th position.

We are just one point behind 3rd place with 3 games in hand on Oxford who are in 4th. We need a top 5 finish as I`m more than sure you`re all aware.

It`s still all very close isn`t it?

If you split the season into thirds then we will be 2 thirds of the way through at New Year, it sounds ages away but in reality is less than 10 weeks away. Mental note to self – start shopping.

I try to make it to a handful of away games per season and in November will see me watch county playing against Chorley (who are in 3rd position) and Fylde (top of the league) both away, we are also playing Brackley and Hednesford Town at home.

I personally would take 7 points from these games on paper but anymore would be a blessing, I`m looking forward to both the away games and just hope we don`t get battered on both.

We have now lost Dennis for I think 3 games after he punched McConville (but in reality who blames him we would have all done the same), so that`s a loss as he`s been on fire this season playing impressive football.

On a whole I think we have got a very strong squad available and Lord can have a fiddle with the formation if need be.

I can`t comment on the Chester game as like I said I wasn`t able to make it, but the games I have watched previous this season have been a joy to watch.

Out of the 13 matches we have played in the league so far we have only lost 4 scoring 25, some of which could have been avoidable (Stalybridge for starters) if we were more careful in defence rather than making silly costly errors.

I remember this time last season on the lead up to and after Christmas when our form took a turn for the better, we flirted with just outside the play offs after the new year but had left it too late and were no where near as strong as we are now.

I believe that was a turning point for us. This season is a different story and I still struggle to think we could realistically hit the play offs, not due to our squad but more to the fact we always seem to mess it up.

Providing no games – or at least bare minimum are called off in the lead up to Christmas due to weather – December should see us play the re-arranged game at home to Fylde, Guiseley, Colwyn Bay and Tamworth all at EP.

Away we`re playing Bradford, North Ferriby and Colwyn again.

If we get 15 points from these games that would again be brilliant and set us up nicely for the last push and final third of the season.

I am going to leave it as that for now and report back closer to Christmas or just after New Year; hopefully by then we will still be in a healthy position if not even higher with more wins under our belt and no injuries.
