County fans are reportedly clubbing together in an attempt to keep George Donnelly at the club until the end of the current campaign.

The striker is Paul Simpson’s leading goalscorer with 7 goals to his name already this campaign.

Donnelly, is currently on loan from League one side Plymouth Argyle and is due to return to Home Park in the January transfer window and whilst the club have vowed to do their best in finding funds for a transfer fee, the fans have pledged to try and make up the wages of £1,000 a week.

Organiser Mark White told the Manchester Evening News:

‘George Donnelly is scoring for fun and he can help catapult us back on the road to enjoying our football and winning games.

‘He is however on loan. George wants to play for County and the manager Paul Simpson wants to sign George and above all we as fans want to sign George.”

He added: “We have been told we need £1,000-per-week to help capture his services.

“We are asking fans to pledge whatever they can afford to a ‘Buy George` campaign.

“The club are committing to this by sourcing the funding for a transfer fee to Plymouth but we need to do our part.’

Paul Simpson’s short-term objective will be attempting to take all three points against bottom of the table Hereford at Edgeley Park this weekend.
