County Players Fund

Just over a month has elapsed since the idea that Stockport County supporters might set up a `Players Fund’ to aid Alan Lord`s push for promotion.

For the idea to successfully emerge as a reality, much hard work behind the scenes had to be done- due diligence if you like, and that`s what the Supporters Cooperative did , to ensure it took off successfully instead of remaining no more than just another good but essentially land locked idea.

Some fans began to worry, and doubt whether anything would happen at all, but the Supporters Cooperative along with Help the Hatters, remained steadfastly committed to the project, which both organisations saw as essential if County were to escape Conference North and head back to the Football League.

To do this Alan Lord had to have a decent budget to work with and the Fund offered more than a glimmer of hope in this respect.

Thus….on Saturday 12 July 2014 the announcement was made confirming that the Fund was fact ,and that donations, be they regular via standing order, or occasional , were invited from supporters.

Help the Hatters were particularly delighted with this development, having moved early to facilitate the Fund by setting up a dedicated bank account to receive donations to the Fund.

To start the ball rolling Help the Hatters put £500 into the Fund , and issued a challenge to supporters and particularly to other supporters groups to do likewise.

John Fitzpatrick, Help the Hatters Chairman commented thus:

‘The Fund is potentially a life saver for County and supplements the similar efforts Help the Hatters continue to make to aid our great but ailing Club. It`s time for supporters to respond and help us climb back to the Football League’

Well said John!

(I also understand that for every £2 pledged to the fund, the Supporters Cooperative will receive a £1 share in Stockport County.

Every pound donated will be ring-fenced and go directly into Alan Lord`s budget, which further strengthens the good working relationship between the club and the Cooperative.)

Cropped.
