Stockport County have signed Cork City midfielder Leon McSweeney on an 18 month deal.

McSweeney is unregistered though because the deal is outside the transfer window, meaning that he won’t be able to feature until County visit Notts County on the 4th January 2008.

That means that McSweeney will have to wait at least three weeks for his County debut, but has plenty of time to get fit.

McSweeney left Cork six years ago when he signed for Leicester City. He was re-signed in the July 2007 transfer window, and has now joined County.

He helped Cork lift the FAI Cup for the second time in their history in the most recent season over in Ireland.

Leon is comfortable in midfield, on the right wing, or upfront.

Speaking to stockportcounty.com, McSweeney said: ‘I’m delighted to have joined County and I’m really happy to be here.

‘The manager’s ambitious and I just want to be part of it.’
