Stockport County have received some good news ahead of Saturday’s big game at Chesterfield.

Ex County, and Chesterfield star player Jamie Ward will miss the game through injury.

It is a huge blow for Chesterfield as Ward is one of their key players, and would have give County an extra problem on Saturday would he have been fit.

County fans know what Ward can do, he was on loan from Aston Villa in the 2005/2006 season and played a vital part in keeping County up that season.

He appeared nine times for County and scored once, against Shrewsbury. At the end of the season Jim Gannon went for Ward permanently but player power came into the deal and Ward decided to go to Torquay United, a move he would later regret.

Torquay got relegated and Ward joined League One Chesterfield, but they also got relegated.

He stayed at Chesterfield however, and has started nine league games for them, scoring three times.

Ward can play on either the right hand side or upfront, and his presence would have gave Chesterfield an extra option on Saturday.
