Defender Gareth Owen has today joined League One Yeovil Town on a month’s loan, with a view to a permanent move in January.

Owen had been set to join L2 side Port Vale, but the lure of L1 football proved too much for Owen and he will now join The Glovers later on today.

It is a sad way for the former County skipper’s career to end, having been the only player to ever captain a winning County side at Wembley and always giving 100%.

This all started of course, back at Whaddon Road where a mistake by Owen ended in the former Oldham man being substituted and then having a slanging match with gaffer Jim Gannon on the sidelines.

The two seemingly never patched up their differences, and Owen fell out of favour in the 16 man squad, although Managing Director Mark Maguire said this was ‘for footballing reasons only.’

And the circle has now been completed with Owen today leaving Edgeley Park for good to join Russell Slade’s Yeovil side.

VitalStockport would like to wish Gareth good luck in his new career path, and thank him for all the hard work and effort he has put into being County captain for nearly 2 years.
