Stockport County Ladies continued to do a great job at representing Stockport County when they were knocked out of the Manchester Umbro International Football Festival in the semi-final stage by local rivals Manchester City.

The tournament County were in, the fair game elite trophy, was made up of 12 teams with 2 groups of 6. The top 2 placed teams in each group went through to the semi-finals.

In group A Manchester City came out winners, winning all 5 games, whilst Leeds United finished 2nd, losing just the 1 game to Manchester City and winning the other 4.

County`s group was made up of Everton, Portsmouth, Aston Villa, Curzon Ashton and Baillieston.

Group winners were Everton, whilst County finished 2nd.

County first came up against Everton, and were beaten 2-0. Then the ladies played against Curzon Ashton and drew 0-0.

At this moment County were 4th in the table, and would have to win at least 2 of the remaining 3 games to go through to the semi-finals.

And they soon got themselves some good momentum when they brushed Baillieston aside in a 5-0 win. Then it was onto Portsmouth, and they were beaten 1-0.

Finally, County were playing Aston Villa knowing that if they didn`t win they would be out and Villa would go through.

But the pressure didn`t seem to faze the County ladies as they won 2-0 and went through to the semi-final, where they would play Group A winners Manchester City.

However, this would were County`s tournament would end and Manchester City took the game 2-0 to go through to the final, where they would play Everton who beat Leeds 4-3. Everton would finish tournament winners with a 2-1 win against City.
