Butcher, Baker, Candlestick-Maker?

So, the fall out from any number of inept decisions made by the board last season begins with the news that Stockport County will now be a part-time football club.

What next? The closure of the Railway End and/or Pop side to cut down on stewarding costs?

I had hoped with the recent board additions (particularly Mr Park) that an injection of funds would be forthcoming and that the club could remain full-time for one season at least.

We would (I think) have been the only full-time club in the Blue Square North but given the nature of our recent demise I (naively) hoped it was over to our owners to show the same level of commitment as our fans (see Thanks for your support).

Why does it always feel like our current and past owners drop a clanger and the fans are expected to pick up the pieces? Over and over again.

So the rallying call to buy season tickets in order to fuel Ian Bogie’s playing budget predictably goes out. Emotional blackmail of course. It’s your club, come and support it.

Nothing to do with the owners that we are playing football in division 6.

Oh no, of course not.

You, the fans. Know. Your. Place.

That is how it feels to me this grey Monday morning.

We now look forward to an almost complete overhaul of the playing staff. Not all bad news then.

So take a bow Mr. Butcher, left back, available most of the time but not the first Thursday of each month due to stock-taking.

Welcome on board Mr. Baker, goal-keeper and apart from needing to sit his professional exams in February, available more or less all the time.

Finally give it up for the new teenage left-winger sensation, Mr. Candlestick-Maker who starts college in September.

I almost dread the thought of ‘the minnows from Stockport knock out (insert League Two club here) in the first round of the F.A. Cup with a goal from Smith, the postman’

I know there is a less negative school of thought surrounding part-time players at this level but today, I just can’t be bothered to think about it.

I’m hearing that is possible that Aldershot could go into administration within the next 48 hrs so maybe a possible repreve and we stay in the Blue Square Premier _ I’ll take that – may be some light at the end of the Tunnel Cropped.

Blimey! Sad to see any club in trouble but WOW. That would be a get out of gaol ! Crossing fingers very tightly!

Not wishing to be a killjoy here but wouldn’t they just get a 10 point deduction for the start of next season?

A 10 point deduction would just make them even more bottom of League 2 than they are already. I can’t see it affecting any of the clubs in either league. In fact – if you are to choose a time to go into administration then this is it – didn’t County do just the same thing – ie go into administration when it didn’t immediately affect things – it did later though!!

I am told that the Blue Square will not accept you if you are in administration – I like cropped would not wish to see a fellow Club in trouble but there are one or two that could still swing things our wayso I guess all is not lost.
