Confusion pretty much sums up the mood amongst County fans today – what else is new? – as the Football League meeting was forced to continue today to iron out a future for the Hatters.

The bid from the Melrose Consortium was rejected yesterday as the administrators of the club said that ‘certain unspecified items remained unsolved.’

However the Football League have released a statement today that reads like this:

At yesterday’s meeting the Board of The Football League were updated on the latest situation regarding Stockport County’s administration.

Whilst a number of outstanding issues have been resolved, The Football League was notified prior to the meeting that the administrators and the proposed purchasers have failed to reach final agreement on the terms of the purchase.

On that basis, the Board could not grant any application for transfer of membership at yesterday’s meeting. The Football League will continue to work with all parties to resolve all outstanding points.

So they seem to believe that they have sorted all issues with the Melrose Consortium, and that it’s the administrators who need to agree a deal with the group.

Very odd. Bizarre.

Jim Melrose is said to be ‘frustrated’ at the hold-up, and that he isn’t sure what the problems are exactly. The Consortium are planning to release a statement on BBC GMR Radio shortly, and we’ll bring you news of that as soon as I hear it!
