Perkins Ineligible (I forgot we were playing too)

Gary Ablett will have to make do without holding midfielder Dave Perkins for the visit of Colchester Utd tomorrow as the loanee midfielder cannot play against his parent club.

It leaves the Hatters with a weakened midfield in a week where the football took a back seat amid the worries surrounding the Football League meeting yesterday (Nope, still no word of a statement from Melrose yet – surprise).

So anyway, promotion-chasing Colchester come to EP and it’s the return of ex-County assistant from earlier in this season, John Ward – one of the reasons our early season form was decent. Ward is currently assistant to Aidy Boothroyd in the United hotseat.

Ablett, speaking to COWS, says that his young side ‘have to mentally be counted’ if they’re to get anything from the game and stop the 16 game winless streak.

‘We’ve watched a DVD of the first game at Colchester where, apart from the first 15 minutes, we played our best football of the season. So it’s just a reminder that we can do it, and to remind them of the threat that Colchester can provide, along with having seen their game against Southend on Monday. They’re a big physical team, it’ll be a physical battle, we’ll mentally need to be counted and have the quality to play our football.’

Come on County.

* Again, I remind you – there is a meeting for County fans to attend at 5:30pm at the Bungalow Club tomorrow after the match, discussing and planning where we go from here and if any action will be taken after the latest setback from the Football League. Be there if you can, the more the, erm…merrier.

How has Perkins done for you?

  • scfcsam says:

Really good. No chance of keeping him permanently but he’s a class above.

we don’t need him so there could be a chance you could land him permanently on a free come the end of the season

Yeah, we dont need him, dont want him, and he wants out so think a free transfer seems likely. Glad he’s doing so well for you guys!

Would love to sign him up but we will not have any cash at the end of the season. We may not have any club.
