County Lose Council Sponsorship

I really can’t stand politicians. They’re all the same.

Tonight – and this isn’t even the main story of the night – SMBC cast a vote on whether or not to continue sponsoring County for next season to the tune of £40k, with Stockport Council to be promoted on the front of the shirt.

Whilst a small gaggle of SCFC fans bandied together and vocally supported the sponsorship, Labour Leader Andre Verdielle was staunchly against the sponsorship and even claimed that he had been the victim of phone threats from angry Hatters fans.

In the end, 28 including supportive leader Dave Goddard voted in favour of the sponsorship, while the majority and 31 voters opted against.

And there we have it.

Stand by though, for news of yet more change at Edgeley Park, and the possible appointment of Germany international Dietmar Hamann as our new manager. Amazing.

Well isn’t that great news about a new manager (NOT) i’m sure this news will really please Ray Mathias and his efforts to bring in new faces!!!

New manager? can not see that coming of, lets stop these rumors and get behind Ray 100%, god he needs it. Thanks SMBC for supporting OUR local team in times of need, because if I remember rightly you milked it when we were in good times??

Its never dull being a County fan! The antics/rumours coming from Edgeley Park make the comings and goings at our ‘City’ neighbours look pretty tame.

Doesn’t surprise me when we get back on our feet the council and town will want to know us again!!! Not to sure about Hamann think Mathias has what it takes with all his experience to sort the club out and get us back into league football think it will be a big ask for Hamann as he has no experience what so ever of lower league football never mind conference!!!!!!!

I can understand the council rejecting the sponsorship package. We have never had the support some clubs have had from their council. So a disappointment but not a massive surprise. However, I believe the attitude a whole host of Councillors used about our club was disgraceful. They were sticking the knife in, taking the mickey out of us and likening us to a music hall joke (which I suppose we are in many ways but that is not the point). They showed NO respect for the club and many were hostile to us. How many were sat supping at the Town Hall reception when we got promoted to League One I wonder. We had 4,000 average fans last year. Lets guess at least 6,000 different souls made at least one visit to EP last year. How many County fans did not attend a game last season (not having a dig) but I can quite easily believe we have 10,000 fans living in the borough. More than enough to sway certain wards when it comes to the vote. Problem is, I believe the LibDems were very supportive in this meeting and there were a few impassioned speeches… bet your bottom dollar though, if they had been in power and Lab/Con were after votes it would have all been reversed. F**k em all.

… and as for the takeover / new investment saga I am led to believe the job was offered to someone else (didnt know it was Hamman) – what on earth must Ray Matthias be thinking. What a bloody shambles te club is still in behind the scenes. Please, for goodness sake not another season of calamity. I know some doom-mongers are saying we won’t even finish the season, in fact maybe not start the season. Think that is too downbeat but my gut is telling me no bounce back to the FL, no comfortable mid table campaign…. yup… another season of *****.

  • cropped says:

Pilks – think we have a 20% of profit clause. In my head I am pencilling in £150K to us. Could be a bloody Godsend

  • footballtaz1 says:

Thnk you got it off your chest there Cropped? £150K would more than welcome but will Ray get it for players? I think not

  • dcw1989 says:

    Any news about this takeover??????

  • footballtaz1 says:

Someone told me today next week for takeover but your guess is as good as mine, they also say Hammann will be in charge next week, if thats the case I fel for Ray, Pilkington close to moving on as well which will be a good wind fall for us.
