County MD Resigns

Image for County MD Resigns

Given events of the last week or so I thought I would reproduce this communique from the Trust in whole.

‘The Stockport County Trust can confirm that Mark Maguire has resigned from his position as Managing Director of Stockport County Football Club. Mark had been Managing Director since March 2007.

Trust Chairman David Hoyle said ‘On behalf of Stockport County Trust, I would like to thank Mark Maguire for all his work on the Trust Board, on the County Board and latterly as Managing Director. Mark was part of the original negotiating team when the Trust took ownership and as such he played his part in the Stockport County story.’

The Club statement can be viewed on County`s Official Website: www.stockportcounty.com
Why have the Trust Board not provided a full statement and confirmed a forum?

The Trust Board has maintained a silence during January as it was imperative that the Club Board and management worked to resolve the issues facing the football club. The Trust Board has fully supported the Club Board and Management during this period and has actively provided assistance where required. Commenting publicly or trying to debate the situation whilst things were still fluid would have had a destabilising effect. The intention has always been to hold a public forum once a clear path had been established; as detailed in the recent programme notes vs MK Dons this is envisaged to be towards the end of February.

Mark Maguire’s resignation has obviously brought things to the forefront again, however it is still our intention to hold a forum as soon as is possible. We understand how frustrating this is, as it is equally frustrating not to be able to correct and refute speculation and misinformation.

We will send full details, including date and location of the forum as soon as we have them confirmed.

Remember: IT`S YOUR TRUST – IT`S YOUR STOCKPORT COUNTY!

As an aside, this site will be updated more frequently from now on. Sam (like Jack) has had to step aside due to time constraints. I would like to thank both Sam and Jack for their excellent match reporting.

At a time like this we need the whole County family to come together behind the Trust. It really is time for Animo et Fide folks!

I think a Trust Forum cannot come soon enough. I feel a bit of a mushroom with all this and all I hear is rumours of an approach from outside investors. Does this mean a 49% Trust owned club would be possible if voted for?

My problem with an outside consortium ever taking over is that I have had a taste of owning MY football club. And now… even if it means we struggle to stay in L1 or regress to life in L2, then so be it. Where have we been for most of our existence. It wouldn’t be so bad. The key lies in getting the ground back (or a new ground via Council input) and looking 10, 15 or 20 years into the future. That means reaching out into the community and growing our support. We CAN do this.
