County produce a halloween horror show

County were thumped 5-0 on Saturday afternoon as the Hatters paid the price for a number of individual defensive mistakes.

A mix up between Mansour Assoumani and Matt Glennon allowed Kenny Lunt the time and room to find Rob Purdie who found himself with just Mark Lynch to beat which he did with aplomb.

Purdie, signed on loan from Oldham during midweek soon made it 2-0.

Matthieu Manset squared the ball to Lunt, whose powerful effort was palmed away by Glennon, only for the ball to fall to Purdie once again who was presented with the easiest of finishes.

County could have pulled back somewhat of a consolation goal moments later when the surprisingly quiet George Donnelly produced a powerful header which forced Bulls keeper Adam Bartlett into a world class save.

James McQuilkin produced a 25-yard thunderbolt on the half-hour mark which had Glennon flying through the air to tip over as a chorus of boos rang around Edgeley Park going into the interval.

Within seven minutes of the whistle, The Hatters were even further behind when Manset somehow managed to beat the offside trap and with just Glennon to beat he made it 3-0.

Donnelly and Jake Simpson both had good chances to give County hope which on other days they may have taken.

Three became four with minutes to go when substitute Stuart Fleetwood managed to skip away from Robbie Williams and curl in a fourth.

There was still time for one of the most bizarre own goals of the season when Fleetwood’s shot in the penalty area hit Glennon, then Assoumani before rolling slowly into an empty County net.

Paul Simpson was critical of his team’s defending.

‘It was a horrible performance for 90 minutes; we didn`t deserve anything from it. We have been given a real spanking.

‘We never recovered from the start we made and some of the goals we conceded today were just comical. You cannot expect to defend like that and get anything but an eventual result like the one we got today.’

Diabolical disaster, an absolute shambles. Enough said.

The only positive I can muster up is that Hereford under their new gaffer are not a bottom of the league side. They may end up top half. We must belieev there are two teams who will finish below us. Not going to rant and rave and foam at the mouth. Back to square one. Back to the absolute basics. Dont care if we hoof it long for the rest of the season just as long as we do NOT drop out of the league. As fans we need to understand the reality and grit our teeth.

Kid C.. Hereford are NOT a good side, we made them look good cause we are a shambles clueless side Pullis is garbage does anyone believe that if he was any good he would be with us!!!? he would be with a Championship side or League one team if he was a good player.
I despair at our side ….we would make Macclesfield Ladies team look good if we played them ….SHOCKINGLY BAD

Edgeley.. dont say that mate! Hereford have better players than us. They will finish 14/15/16th at least. Morecambe away on Tuesday. Got to grind out a point. We are poor but there MUST BE two sides worse than us…. just must be. Cannot contemplate the Conference. Heart break time if we end up there.

Totally agree with Maz Al and Edgeley – Yes, this current squad is the worst in the league – no goals scored in the last 3 played and 5 conceded says it all. Simpson is on a par with Carlton Palmer and Chris Turner – totally inept, tactically clueless and out of his depth in the league – its time to go before it gets worse which it inevitably will. There is only one way this club is heading and thats the Conference and this current squad will struggle in that league. The ultimate understatement of the week must go to GMR reporter Brian Clarke who in his after match statement said that this was “simply a bad day at the office”. It wasnt, it wax a disgraceful disgusting exhibition of “couldnt care less” by a bunch of no hopers managed by a total amateur manager. If County are not in the bottom three by christmas my bottom will be bared on the Town Hall steps on New Years eve and thats a promise!!!
    Alty here we come!

I hope Deja Vu occurs preferably before Christmas when a certain Jim Gannon came riding in on his white horse to rescue us.
I dont dislike Simmo and dont put him in the Chris Turner and Palmer league of being totally innept but it is worrying to see this side struggle the way we do, I stand by whar I say that Hereford are not a good side but agree that they have better players than us but that isn’t really hard is it!! the bottom line is that we do not have any money to spend so how can we get better quality in.
I try to be possitive internally but realistically it is grim..and probably Grimsby next year unless they get promoted of course

Tried to be upbeat but that performance was disgraceful. Individual naive mistakes I can see will happen as we have not got many players of league standard but the effort and passion was not there. That is not acceptable. Simpson must take his share of the blame for that. We need a 100% fired up and focused eleven taking the field on Tuesday. Edgeley sums it up … SHOCKINGLY BAD

Of the 17 players available last Saturday 10 were brought in by Simpson. My question, is he getting the right players in? He must have had money to spend with 10 players coming in. So where is the quality? I would have prefered 7 or 8 players of some quality that would do us the job of improving. Having more players is not the best way forward. So lets see better quality players but not the dross that we have at present.

  • Ra-Ra-Roger says:

Well. They will all be under the microscope from me tomorrow at Morecambe. No time for any pre-match relaxation so I will be stone cold sober in my judgement. Back to square one. Lets grind out a result. Clean sheet and nil nil will be the start. If we could nick a win though… !
