Crewe 3 County 1

Quality football from County had no end product this afternoon as good finishing handed Crewe a late victory at Gresty Road.

Adam Legzdins started in goal, giving some sort of indication that Jim Gannon may start with Legzdins next weekend in the season opener against Dagenham.

Matty McNeil and Adam Proudlock started together upfront for the first time, but this is unlikely to be the partnership next weekend.

Gareth Owen suffered an injury in training, Paul Tierney stepped in at centre back and Adam Griffin covered at left back.

After about ten minutes the game was pretty even, but Maynard broke through and was brought down in the area by Legzdins. Gary Roberts stepped up and scored from the spot, 1-0 to Crewe Alexandra.

Keith Briggs pulled up after about half an hour, and he was replaced by Gary Dicker. Dicker went into central midfield and Tony Dinning went to right back. From here on in Dicker & Taylor dominated the game for County.

It was Gary Dicker who played Matty McNeil through when McNeil was having his shirt pulled, again the referee pointed to the spot and it was a chance for County to equalise. Adam Proudlock converted the penalty and made it 1-1.

Into the second half and Gannon was making changes to his side, Adamson replaced Legzdins at half time in goal.

County dominated all the way through the second half until the final five minutes.

Dickinson, Poole, Williams, Dinning and Elding all had chances to give County the lead.

But going into the closing stages of the game Miller beat Adamson at his far post (yet again) and gave Crewe the lead with just minutes left.

Just to finish off the job Maynard scored from outside the area.

A sloppy finish to a good game from County, it definitely seems as if we just need a keeper and we will be there. Watch out for us this season!

Just the one friendly left, an under 21 game at Kendal on Tuesday night.

You have scored a lot of goals pre season including six against Cardiff. You must be quiet confident?
