Come on admit it.. like me you thought the £150,000 from Chelsea for Harry Worsley was going to provide Chris Turner a nice little war chest to go out and, well, replace bits of the defence.

Wrong!

Turner says ‘Most of the Harry Worley money has already gone. In the summer, previous owner Brian Kennedy gave the go-ahead for us to spend £125,000 on the back of the Chelsea tribunal so that we could start signing some players in plenty of time for the current season. It was a bit of a gamble.’

‘The money from Chelsea does leave an extra £25,000 but we are just trying to keep this club going.’

Turner goes on to highlight that apart from Tony Vaughan County are not yet suffering from injuries, but that the squad is light and will need strengthening. Arthur thinks the money from an FA Cup victory against Hereford and a nice third round draw looks very very important. [Arthur does state the bl**ding obvious though – Mrs Brownlow].

Details of the forthcoming FA Cup tie at Edgar Street have been released. County are being allocated the entire Blackfriars End (capacity 1,000) with a further 250 seats in the Len Weston Stand. Hereford have an extra 500 terrace places if County can sell ’em.

Prices: Seating £12; Concessions at £9
Standing £10; Concessions at £6

By concessions I refer to over-65s, students with ID cards and under 16-s

Scrumpy £2 a pint. Under 18’s Lemonade £1.50 a pint. Pieces of straw free. Amazing.

How you get to Hereford will be subject to an article nearer the date. If anyone has any ideas please mail Arthur at editor@stockport.vitalfootball.co.uk

On the rumours front Arthur continues to hear of Premiership interest in James Spencer and Michael Raynes. Turner has gone on record as saying that both players need another season at County ideally, but that he would not stand in any players way. So you takes yer money….

In other news, the vision of a County vs Chelsea game again continues to tantalise. As you all know I’m sure, Chelsea’s first league game took place at Edgeley Park 100 years ago when County came out 1 – 0 victors. The goal scorer was Bob Manson by the way, and how we all partied at the brand new Florist public house that evening I can tell you! Beer at a ha’ penny per pint. It were grand, but I digress…. Due to Chelsea’s shock 1-0 exit from the Carling Cup at the hands of Charlton, County and Chelsea are looking at January 26th as a possible date for an historic friendly.

County chief executive Kevan Taylor said ‘We have spoken to Chelsea this week and they are looking at next January for a date for the game’. A few quid in the coffers if this comes off.

Up the Hatters!
