County`s youth team swept into the last 16 of the Football Conference Youth Alliance Cup today with a fine win away at Farsley.

County created the majority of the chances in the first 25 minutes but the strong Farsley defence were rarely too troubled.

Most threatening were the strong runs by Demell Cumberbatch on the right wing but though these looked likely to open up the visitors defence County were unable to capitalise.

Farsley then came more into the game forcing County back on the defensive. Shortly after a good save by Adam Rigby the Yorkshire side forced the ball home to take a 35th minute lead.

County responded well earning a couple of corners with Kiarno Samms bringing a good full length save from the Farsley keeper.

A solo run by the same player looked like earning the equaliser but the Farsley centre half got in an excellent last ditch tackle to concede a corner which came to nothing, leaving the visitors with a 1-0 lead at half time.

County kept the same 11 for the second half and they responded well. Within the first 5 minutes a cross from Ben Spibey gave Samms the chance to level the scores.

County then made their first substitution bringing in Liam Atkinson on the left wing for Luke Kerrigan.

Around 10 minutes after the equaliser another County attack was stopped by a foul 10 yards outside the area. Leon Murphy took the free-kick and curled the ball around the 5 man wall.

Although the Farsley keeper got a hand to the ball it went in off the post to put County ahead.

County’s next substitution saw the creator of the first goal replaced by Albert Keeling. After going in front County’s threat was reduced as Farsley looked for the equaliser.

During this spell they forced the best save of the game from Rigby.

County made their final substitution when Palmer came on for Ainsley Mantack and they looked to be getting back on top but Farsley got the ball downfield and equalised.

It seemed likely that goal would take the game to penalties but two minutes later Samms broke clear on the Farsley right and shot home across the keeper to restore County’s lead.

The side then saw out the last few minutes to claim a hard earned place in the last 16 of the competition.

Team: Adam Rigby, Ainsley Mantack (Kameron Palmer), Leon Murphy, Kristopher Livesey, Nick Williams, Rodney Ajayi, Demell Cumberbatch, Callum Jones, Kiarno Samms, Ben Spibey (Albert Keeling), Luke Kerrigan (Liam Atkinson).

The match at Guiseley next week is now postponed so the next scheduled match is 11 December 2013 at Stockport Sports Village against Gateshead.

Well done the yoof! Hope some of these names pop up in the first team in a couple of years time. To be sold 12 months later of course 🙁
