It didn’t take long then did it? Just a day after leaving Peterborough United to allow Gary Johnson to take up the role as manager at London Road, Jim Gannon has taken a swipe at ‘technical director’ Barry Fry.

Gannon, who has been linked (well I say linked, I basically mean it’s on Yellowboard) with a return to Edgeley Park at the end of the season, had already turned down a four-year deal at the relegated Championship club and planned to leave at the end of the season as he and his wife prepared for the birth of their second child in Stockport.

And now Jimbo has hit out at Fry, saying it was almost ‘untenable’ for him to continue working at the club while Fry was getting involved in transfer deals.

He said: ‘I’m not in charge of the overall football department as I see it. It’s about defining the roles between the manager and the technical director.’

‘It’s about who is ultimately responsible for the performance in the football department, who’s responsible for recruiting, who’s responsible for players leaving, who’s responsible for how the budget is spent.’

But Fry spoke today at a press conference, hitting back…

‘Jim’s in the past now. Gary is the manager, he indentifies the players he wants and I try to go out and get them with the help of the chairman.’

‘He identifies who he doesn’t want and I try and get rid of them. That’s my role, it’s simple really.’
